ISBAT University proudly hosted the 3rd International Conference titled “Impact of Disruptive Technologies on the Business World: Challenges and Opportunities in Africa” (IBTBW2024), a landmark event focused on the transformative role of disruptive technologies in shaping Africa’s business landscape. Sponsored by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the conference brought together leading voices in technology, academia, and business to explore both the challenges and opportunities presented by digital innovation across the continent.
The conference, held on ISBAT University’s campus in Kampala, featured distinguished Guests of Honor: Hon. Joyce Nabosa Ssebugwawo, Minister of State for ICT & National Guidance, and Mr. Timothy Ssejjoba, Acting Commissioner, Department of University Education. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration between the government, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders in advancing Africa’s digital ecosystem.
Exploring the Impact of Disruptive Technologies
Under the theme of IBTBW2024, the conference examined the widespread impact of disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) on Africa’s business sector. Key topics addressed included the rise of digital financial services, the potential for AI to enhance productivity and innovation, and the challenges posed by cybersecurity and data privacy issues. The conference sessions highlighted how these emerging technologies are transforming industries, creating new business models, and reshaping job markets across the continent.
In her keynote address, Hon. Joyce Nabosa Ssebugwawo emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a technology-driven economy that can meet the evolving needs of Ugandan citizens and businesses. “As we embrace the digital age, Uganda has the potential to become a regional leader in technology and innovation. By supporting our institutions and cultivating talent, we can harness disruptive technologies to create jobs, improve service delivery, and foster a resilient economy,” she stated.
Mr. Timothy Ssejjoba also shared insights into the role of the Ministry of Education in ensuring that higher education aligns with the demands of a technology-driven market. He emphasized the importance of digital literacy, innovation in education, and partnerships with industry to prepare students for the evolving workforce.

• Cybersecurity and Data Privacy: With digital adoption on the rise, cybersecurity has become a critical concern for African businesses. This session highlighted best practices and policy recommendations for protecting data in an increasingly connected world.
• Youth Empowerment through Tech Innovation: Recognizing Africa’s young and growing population, a dedicated session focused on how to empower young Africans to become leaders in tech innovation, promoting entrepreneurship and skills development.
