Empowering UPF to strengthen their cybersecurity posture

 

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has taken another step forward in its efforts to combat cybercrime and protect digital infrastructure by undergoing a training program at ISBAT University’s Cybervault on Wednesday, 5th April 2023. The programme titled “Empowering UPF to strengthen their cybersecurity posture ” was inaugurated by the Ag. Director Senior Commissioner of Police Mr. Sewanyana Yusufu

The programme was designed to equip UPF IT experts with the latest cybersecurity techniques, tools, and best practices to enhance their ability to protect digital assets, mitigate cyber threats, and respond to incidents effectively.

 

Speaking at the event, the Ag. Director Senior Commissioner of Police Mr. Sewanyana Yusufu emphasized the importance of the programme to the UPF’s efforts to combat cybercrime and protect Uganda’s digital infrastructure. He also expressed appreciation for the association between the UPF and ISBAT University, which provided a platform for the training.

Speaking about the training, ISBAT University’s Director Academic Affairs Dr Pradeep Kumar, said, “Cybersecurity is an increasingly important concern in today’s digital age. As a leading technologically advanced institution of higher learning, it is our responsibility to ensure that our students and the wider community are equipped with the necessary skills to tackle this challenge. We are proud to have the opportunity to impart our expertise to the Uganda Police Force, and we hope that this training will contribute to their efforts in safeguarding the country’s digital assets.”

Speaking about Lab Infrastructure and learning facility, Mohamed Shameem, the Head ICT Infrastructure -ISBAT University, ISBAT University’s Cybersecurity Lab Infrastructure is at the forefront of cybersecurity education in Uganda and the East African region. The university has invested heavily in the lab infrastructure to ensure that students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology that is critical in developing their skills in the cybersecurity field.

The training was conducted by a team of experienced cybersecurity experts from ISBAT University, who have extensive knowledge and experience in the field. The officers who participated in the training expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from the experts and to acquire new skills that will enable them to better protect the country’s digital infrastructure.

Mr Shameem, the industry certified Cyber Security and Cyber Forensic expert at ISBAT University shared his expertise and experiences in dealing with cyber-attacks. He emphasized the need for the Uganda Police Force to stay updated on the latest techniques and tools used by cybercriminals to effectively safeguard digital assets. He also discussed the role of research activities and cybersecurity experts in identifying and mitigating cyber threats.

In his closing remarks, Hareesh Kumar, GM Future Technologies, thanked the Uganda Police Force for their participation and commended their commitment to protecting the country’s digital infrastructure. He also praised the team of trainers and experts for their efforts in imparting valuable knowledge and skills to the participants. He urged the participants to make the most of the training and apply their expertise to safeguard Uganda’s digital assets and combat cybercrime.

Overall, the ” Empowering UPF to strengthen their cybersecurity posture ” program was a step forward in the efforts to enhance cybersecurity in Uganda. The collaboration between the Uganda Police Force and ISBAT University demonstrated the importance of partnerships in promoting cybersecurity awareness and capabilities. The program equipped the participants with the necessary tools and training to effectively combat cybercrime and protect the country’s digital infrastructure.

Mr. Shameem, the Cyber and Network Infrastructure Expert, and Trainer, who facilitated the training, praised the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants. He also emphasized the need for continuous training to keep up with the ever-evolving cyber threats.

The training programme was a success, and the UPF and ISBAT University plan to continue their collaboration to enhance cybersecurity education and joint research activities.
